Growing up in Ontario I can say I had a great childhood. The entire neighborhood was our playground. We grew up discipline and respectful of our elders and people in general. So much has change from my generation to the present but I must say that Ontario is a beautiful place. Our community has produce some extraordinary and talented persons throughout the years.
The church has played a major role in how our community came to be. It's name after the hometown of missionaries who came to Belize looking for a place to do God's work. It so happened that they came across this place while driving. Back then it was mostly jungle and a dirt road. But as time went on and through their missionary work, a primary school and a old folks home; which later became a children's home, was founded.
My parents became a part of that ministry when my dad was only 19 years old. He devoted over 30+ years in the school and children's home. He played every role from bus driver, to worship leader, to youth leader, to teacher, manager, to director, to pastor. One thing that he has always strive for is excellence. And even today you will often hear him say; 'Excellence glorify God and people are blessed'. Today he is still working toward making a difference in Ontario being Pastor and director of Christian Ministries of Belize, and Cayo Christian Academy high school. Over 80% of the students that attend the high school has sponsorship. The students have excel in university and on the work place. If they had not been given such opportunity of going to high school most of them would be in the streets and be another statistic.
Through partnership with other local churches and a foreign ministry every year over 500+ boxes of groceries are given out to families throughout Ontario and neighboring villages. Every year summer camps are given through the church. This year the church has partnered in having a leadership camp. Taking the young adults who have shown potential in being leaders in their communities and schools and giving them the necessary tools to achieve their goals. These are just a few of the things that take place in my community.
We maybe a small community but so much takes place here. We give...not expecting to receive back but to grow and build Ontario and our Nation Belize.
